  • What is your vision: what is the fundamental purpose of your company?
  • Given this, what’s your unique business model—how do you build a sustainable model for making money and fulfilling this purpose
  • Identify the threats and opportunities on the horizon—and make them work to your advantage
  • Articulate clearly and simply, to the entire organization, the strategic intent for the next 3-5 years. Put simply, what will the organization look like 3-5 years from now?

  • Translate the strategic intent into a clear set of themes or pathways for execution and a matching set of blueprints to execute against
  • Given the blueprint, create a system for tracking the results you are getting versus the targets in the blueprint. Quickly analyze why you are not hitting your targets and adjust your actions and/or redouble your effort.
  • Focus on the first things first; what needs to be changed to get the highest leverage. Identify and focus on the 20% of the work that will drive 80% of the results.
